Aldis Hodge Wants To Join The DCU... as John Stewart

I've been getting some Aldis Hodge stuff in my news feed lately, and none of it is all that good. Yes, most of it is clickbait, but when there is little to no news coming from anywhere about Hawkman, you pick up some stuff when it pops up.
Aldis Hodge played Hawkman in Black Adam over a year ago. He did a great job with it and his performance was one of the highlights of the film. But the movie came out right when DCEU was imploding on itself and James Gunn appeared to erase everything and start from scratch. Sort of. But with his favorite pieces.
It's becoming clear that there were some plans for a Hawkman spinoff in some form, but that has all been scrapped. Hodge says that there were some plans, but he hasn't heard anything from Gunn.
While Hodge has thrown his name in the hat for the DCU’s John Stewart, he hasn’t fully closed the door on returning as Carter Hall/Hawkman. He recently admitted that he “would like to finish out the plans that we had for Hawkman, and sort of revisit them, because there’s such a body of depth when it comes to his whole storyline and all that kind of stuff.”
So Hawkman isn't happening, and he's ready to move on. That doesn't mean he's moving on from DC. It just means the he would rather play John Stewart if he's offered the chance. He seems to be letting Gunn know about his desire in some of his interviews. Hodge has already been the voice actor for John Stewart in the 2022 DC Animated Film, "Green Lantern: Beware My Power."
Looking back on the movie, Black Adam had a lot of bad luck. The movie was initially scheduled for December 2021, then July 2022, and finally released in October 2022. If it had been released as scheduled, it could have avoided the DCEU implosion. But...COVID. Then China got all upset about Pierce Brosnan being pals with the Dalai Lama and refused to release it in the theaters. If China had released it, The movie would have passed $400 easily. Bad decisions were also made with the plot, especially the overemphasis on the family in Kahndaq, especially the boy. It could have been a better and shorter movie without it.
Hawkgirl is in the plans for the Superman movie that's coming out next year, but we have heard nothing about Hawkman for quite some time. I believe we've seen the last of Aldis Hodge as Hawkman. At this point, I'll be shocked if they suddenly announce him as Hawkman for the DCU.

No Plans for Hawkman in the DCU...Yet
Aldis Hodge said in a recent interview that there have been zero talks about him joining the DCU as Hawkman. It's looking more and more like his run as Hawkman will end with one movie. The movie came right when the DCEU was imploding and it looks like the JSA, Hawkman, Doctor Fate and others will be swept under the rug by James Gunn. At this point, I'll be shocked if anything happens with that cast again. And even if Aldis Hodge returns, there's a good chance that it won't be as Hawkman.
Fans are keep an eye on what they are doing with Hawkgirl but personally, I'm not not expecting much there. Hoping for the best, because that's all we can have at this point.

New Hawkman and Hawkgirl Show Rumors
There is a rumor about a Hawkman and Hawkgirl show going around. I received a message from one of the followers on Hawkworld Instagram about an unverified rumor going around on Reddit. (Thanks, _finlayattridge_!) Then I saw this article from FandomWire:
James Gunn’s DCU Chapter 2 & 3 Reportedly Releasing 10 Insane Projects to Beat MCU – Teen Titans Movie and More in the WorksHawkman and Hawkgirl Show would be another exciting addition to DCU. As the Reddit report suggests, a show based on these characters has been in talks.
It's a rumor about something that may or may not happen in DCU Chapter TWO or THREE, so who knows how many years ahead we're talking here so I'm not jumping up and down with glee just yet. And we know what happens to DC's plans for live action. It's been an absolute mess with a few shining moments. But seeing the way things are with the Hawks in DC Comics right now, any news is good news. Right?

CBR: The DCU Hawkgirl Has an Opportunity to Rectify a DCAU Mistake
Finally. I've been waiting for someone to write this article, and CBR's Timothy Donohoo did it. The Justice League cartoon was popular, but it made an absolute mess of Hawkman. The show practically ripped everything good about him away to prop up their Hawkgirl-John Stewart romance. Thanks to this horrible version of Hawkman, many kids who grew up in the 2000s learned to love Hawkgirl but hate Hawkman. The only good thing this cartoon gave the Hawks was Hawkgirl's first costume, which is a classic look, but they even took that away and replaced it with a yellow jumpsuit. Let's hope the DCU stays far, far away from the DCAU version and bring the Hawks back together as they should be. Many thanks to Donohoo for writing this article.

DCU Hawkgirl: Isabela Merced
Big Announcement from DCU James Gunn! |
There was big news in Hawkworld today: in a surprise announcement, we found out that Isabela Merced was cast as Hawkgirl for James Gunn's Superman Legacy. The Superman movie is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025, which means we have a two-year wait before we see the first Hawkgirl to soar across the movie screen.
We have no details on what her role will be in the movie. Two other heroes were also announced with Hawkgirl: Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific and Nathan Fillion as GL Guy Gardner. This seems like a completely random, mishmash group of heroes who have all never been on the same team before, and how they come into Superman's story is anyone's guess. We'll have to wait for more details to come out as the release date gets closer. But James Gunn confirmed it himself on Instagram yesterday.

Gunn Shuts Down Hawkman Spin-Off Plans
A rather depressing article from a site called The Direct came out today. In an article titled "Black Adam 2: Did DC Cancel Dwayne Johnson's Sequel Plan?" (the answer is yes) by Nathan Johnson, we see the details of what Johnson had planned and also the tidbit again about some plans for a Hawkman spinoff.
