Predictions for Hawkworld 2025

Predictions and Hopes for Hawkworld 2025

It's been a slow few years for Hawkman and Hawkwoman. Ever since the end of the Hawkman series in 2021 and Justice League in 2022, it's been a long run of cameos, cover art appearances, and a few sudden appearances here and there with a line or two at best. Hawkgirl has had it a bit better, with her continued appearances with the Justice League, and the announcement of her role in the upcoming Superman movie. We'll ignore that disastrous Hawkgirl mini-series and just move on like it never happened.
So what will we see for the Hawks in 2025? Here are a few bold predictions for 2025.
Carter Hall III
Art by In-Hyuk Lee

Hawkman (Carter Hall III)
This is the main version that we have seen since the Metal series by Scott Snyder and the Hawkman series by Robert Venditti. His reincarnation has ended and he is back together with his soulmate, Shayera Hol II. He is currently a member of the Justice Society.

1. He will continue to be a member of the JSA by Jeff Lemire, but he will be a supporting cast member behind the younger heroes, Flash, and Green Lantern. He will not be killed off but he will eventually be regulated to guest appearances only, but that probably won't happen until 2026.
2. He will pop up here and there on covers and as background filler in other titles like Action Comics, Detective Comics or one of the myriad of other Batman titles.
3. DC Comics currently has two universes going; the mainstream version and the Absolute version (where nothing is absolute it seems). Depending on how well the two universes sell, it is possible that at least a mini-series starring Hawkman and Hawkwoman or an Absolute version that will make Tim Truman's Hawkworld series seem tame could be released. Someone will have to talk Batman-crazed Jim Lee into it though. Good luck with that.
4. After Superman Legacy is released, talk about a Hawkgirl and Hawkman movie could pick up steam up with a rumor here and there. Or there could be talk about a John Stewart-Hawkgirl movie. All we can do is hope and pray that they don't make that mistake again.
5. Artists will continue to release some amazing Hawkman art for covers, variants, commissions or other projects. Artists really seem to enjoy drawing Hawkman, so we can look forward to some amazing art again this year.
6. If DC releases some animated movies this year, there could be a Hawkman appearance but they love to kill him off in these movies, so look for another Hawkman death if he's in it.

Kendra Saunders II

This is the second version of Kendra Saunders. The first version was from 1999 to 2009. The current version appeared during the Rebirth era in Scott Snyder's Metal series. This Hawkgirl is not connected to the current Hawkman, but they have been seen fighting together in some series and in the current JSA comic.

1. First and foremost; the MOVIE. The first trailer was released in December and we got one second of Hawkgirl flying through the sky with mace in hand. But what a glorious one second it was! That uniform needs to go but it looks like they got the helmet, wings, and mace right. That mace may be the best live action mace (and most comic accurate) we've seen yet. I think Hawkgirl will get one scene where she really shines, but then she'll be in the background the rest of the time. The movie is just too crowded. But if the movie is really successful, we could start hearing rumors about a Hawkgirl and Hawkman movie. Ugh. I just got a 2023 flashback I hope we don't go through that again.
2. Hawkgirl is currently in the JSA comics, but I predict she'll be replaced by Hawkwoman and she'll scoot over to the Justice League comic where she should be. They may try to hook her up with yet another male hero, maybe Blue Beetle? They're both Hispanic so maybe...?
3. Some of the editors will either not care or not know that Kendra is not connected to Carter anymore, so we'll see more of the "You're not my destiny, Carter! I choose my own destiny! And I hate you! But I want you, you burning hunk of a man!" I hope not, but it's a tired trope that some writers keeping running back to.
4. We could see a lot of Hawkgirl toys, figures, statues, and Funk Pops from the influence of the movie. I've got my Hawkgirl alerts set because I think we'll be getting at least some of that this year. Hawkgirl fans, rev up your credit cards!

Shayera Hol II

This is the second version of Shayera Hol. She has had very few appearances since the last Hawkman series ended in 2021. It's a shame, because she was an absolute badass in that series. But there is some news for her.
1. Shayera will make an appearance in the Green Lantern Corps issue in March. It is set on Thanagar which seems to imply that she is still the empress and leader of the planet. To be honest, I'll be surprised if the current writer and editors of that series will remember the groundwork that Scott Snyder and Robert Venditti laid out for her, but there's always hope. Putting her in that vital position could bring her out more in the mainstream DC universe, so I'm not putting any money down on it, but I really hope that's they way they go.
2. We should see her in the JSA series later on in the year. She was mentioned in the series in the most recent issue (No. 3), implying that Carter and Shayer are still a couple in the current universe so we'll see them back together soon. A member of Hawkworld Facebook reported that Lemire has said he was bringing her back, so fingers crossed!
3. Depending on how well Lemire portrays the couple, we could get a new series that centers on all three Hawks, maybe with the Blue Beetle tagging along? Wouldn't that be a hoot! I mean wheet! The three of four of them on a far flung adventure in the Polaris Galaxy, perhaps. But no Rann-Thanagar stories, please. That's been done to death.

My personal wish list.
1. Hawkman catches up with Supergirl.
In the Hawkman series by Robert Venditti, we found out that Hawkman had a former life on Krypton. His name was Catar-Ol and he was Kara Zor-El's history teacher when Krypton was destroyed. I would love to see some kind of acknowledgement of the past between the two characters. It could be fun.
2. Hawkgirl mentions Hawkman in the movie. If James Gunn is laying out the base for the DCU, it would be awesome to see some reference of Hawkman which would imply that he is out there in this new movie universe.
3. A figure based on the current Hawkman. We keep getting past versions of Hawkman, but nothing of the current. The only figure to come out of Venditti's Hawkman series was that awful Batman Who Laughs with Hawkman's wings on his back. I still don't know why that even happened. Give us a current Hawkman figure, McFarlance Toys!
4. More time for my Hawkworld blog. This is a personal wish, but the blog views have doubled in the last couple of months. I'm not sure the reason, but it's great! I hope the blog continues to catch attention and be a place for Hawkfans and comic book fans to catch up on the Winged Wonders.
5. Last but not least, a Hawkman regular series. Over the last few decades, a Hawkman series has popped up every five years or so. We reach five years since the last series in November, so hello Mr. Jim Lee, Sir! It's time! It will set up the Hawkman movie that will be released in 2026! OK, I'm really reaching here but you never know. Hawkfans always brace for the worst but hope for the best!
