DC: Best Flash Allies (Game Rant)

    Jeremy Brown put out an article today about Flash's best allies, teams, and friends. I wondered if Hawkman would show up in the article. He did, but it was in the section on the Justice Society. That makes perfect sense since Hawkman and the Flash debuted together in Flash Comics #1 back in 1939 and have been soaring/running together ever since. Brown's article reminded me of two (of many) Hawkman-Flash scenes in the comics. Both came in unexpected ways, so maybe that's why they continue to stick out in my mind.

 

   The first came in The Flash #191 (December 2002). This apparently was the first meeting between Wally West and Hawkman (Carter Hall II) after Hawkman had returned from five years in the Hawk Realm. Hawkman gets a good scene and he appears to compliment Wally on the job that he is doing. An unexpected, nice little scene.

   The second scene came a few months later in Hawkman Vol. 4 #15. In the previous issue, one of Hawkman's friends is killed during a battle with the Gentleman Ghost. In this scene, he opens up a chest, and he places her picture inside. The chest is full of pictures of people who he has loved and lost over the years. In plain sight is a picture of Barry Allan with Wally West. It was a bit surprising to see that, but it gave us a quick look into how much Carter cared for Barry.

   I was glad to see the Golden Age Flash and Hawkman mentioned together in the article. Jay Garrick and Carter Hall have had many, many adventures together. It would be great to see more stories and interaction between them someday.
