Dear Warner Brothers, Soaringly from a Hawkfan

An Open Message to  Warner Bros Pictures,

Before you start making a Hawkman movie, I thought I should let you know what a Hawkfan thinks Hawkman should be. Sorry if I'm wrong. But I keep thinking that you're gonna make Hawkman/Carter Hall a stalking, creepy, rage monster who doesn't have enough sense than to go charging at Superman-level foes and getting swatted away. You want Hawkman to be a success? Then do this:

Being shirtless doesn't make him intellectually challenged. He's lived thousands of years. He has experience. His aerial abilities would make Superman air-sick. He has more combat technique and experience than Wonder Woman. He'll make Batman feel like a rookie. But all three have his utmost respect.

As Carter Hall, he has the respect of historians and archaeologists the world over. Institutions of higher learning beg him to come and give lectures. When he talks, people shut up and listen. He knows more history than Wikipedia. He's humble and slow to anger.

From Hawkman Vol. V No. 2, Writer: Robert Venditti

He has Shiera/Shayera/Kendra on a pedestal. And if she says no, he'll gladly honor her wishes. He's loved her for too long to force his will on her or pout/sulk if he doesn't get it. When she talks, he listens. He's not a man-child on steroids who hasn't had any for a while.

He's Captain America with a mace, Batman with wings, and Nick Fury with a longer temper. He hesitates to throw the first punch, but if he enters a battle, he has a plan to be the one to throw the last.

His refuge is up in the highest mountains. Only reachable by flight. In this refuge, he displays his love for history. His mountain fortress is filled with relics of history from many times and planets. He sees his things and they remind him of those he saved, and those he lost.

But at times he is a tortured soul. He always remembers his deaths, the deaths of his loved ones, and the lives he took as a Deathbringer before his salvation. His peace comes from his love of flight, his friends, and the knowledge that Hawkgirl is safe.

He is a hero. Not because he has powers. Not because he is perfect. And not because of what he has accomplished. He is a hero because of his mistakes, because of his remorse, because of his hope for redemption and most importantly, because of his love for life. This is Hawkman.
